A US-based company acquired another company to expand its business and solutions to a wider audience. Mergers and Acquisitions primarily focus on solidating the company’s standing, integrating IT systems, achieve growth and innovation. Thus, this move proved useful to the business, however, they experienced a lack of expertise to migrate the data from the acquired company to a single tenant. 

Migrating data to a single tenant requires sourcing data and information from multiple sources(separate databases, systems, applications, or tenants)  to a unified and centralized environment with the company’s tenant architecture. • While the acquired company had its devices managed through an On-premise AD, the parent company had theirs through Intune MDM.
• The parent company wanted to migrate the entire Office 360 and AD of the acquired company to their Office 360 and Intune AD.

The Plan

We conducted a comprehensive prerequisite analysis to ensure a smooth migration of the on-premise Active Directory to a single tenant. This analysis includes assessing existing infrastructure, identifying dependencies, and verifying compatibility with the target environment. Based on our findings, we developed a detailed migration plan structured into two distinct phases. A clear project timeline was established, outlining milestones, deliverables, and contingency measures to ensure seamless implementation and minimal downtime.

Executing And The Results

Following the migration plan, we implemented the first phase by transferring Email, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive to the parent tenant. This phase ensured seamless communication and collaboration across the unified environment. In the second phase, we migrated devices and implemented Intune policies, standardizing device management and security. Each phase was executed with meticulous testing and validation.
